Koke-dera
koke dera is the Japanese name for moss temple. It is the unofficial name for the Saihō-ji Temple in Kyoto.
Experiencing the moss gardens of Koke-dera inspired me to make these landscapes out of the found pieces paper I collected and digitized.
The softness of a parc covered in moss. It all seems like one big fluffy pillow without limits for a moment. Heaven merges with earth, everything green. A world of softness where every jarring sound, forceful movement, or harsh light is absorbed and disempowered. 

This ungoing series is an attempt to visualize this ideal of an upholstered world, offering a quiet solace and a gentle sense of well-being.

Innu. A set of selfies. 
My reflection as a vague distorted outline in a shiny object taking a selfie. I've placed a tiny paper collage on the reflecting surface. This action allows me to merge three distinct realities into a single image.
When these three dimensions are brought together, it creates a strange, captivating sight where it's hard to tell where my reflection ends, my collage begins, and the real world starts. Everything blends surprisingly. Blurring the lines between dimensions.

10.000 petals
During the lockdown, due to the Corona pandemic, I spend most time in my room. A room with a large bed, wardrobe and a high chest of drawers. The marble top of the chest of drawers was a mini studio. I made miniature collages out of the paper bits I’ve been collecting for ages. Most of the collages had the fragile character of whirling leaves.
Years earlier, 
I had read in an article about a Japanese tradition of folding 1000 cranes with a wish in mind. Through the constant concentration, this desire will manifest itself. The folding of the 1000 cranes is mostly done prior to a wedding, the focus is on a happy marriage during the folding process. It's been a very long time since I read it, maybe in the meantime I've given my own interpretation to the tradition.

I wanted to make 10,000 leaves while thinking about an ideal peaceful, inclusive and ego-free world. I'm still working on the project years later. In the meantime, I weave the leaves into other works and projects.(Like the little Koke Dera landscapes).
Collages 2003-2008
As soft as the worlds are in the work I have been making in recent years, Hard and outspoken were the collages in the period 2003-2008. There is no greater contrast. Every horror that was 'hurled' my way in daily life in paper media I processed without a filter in exuberant tableaux.
So when you can handle this. Hold your breath and disappear in this gruesome series
